Reception Summer 1

We've had some lovely weather to welcome us back for the last term! We have taken lots of our learning outside; take a look!

We found lots of mini beasts outside and decided to make some houses for them! We discussed which mini eats we would like to make a house for and what it should look like. We have some brilliant designers in Reception!

We have also used books and the Internet to find out facts about Minibeasts. We then wrote our facts down!

We read the story of 'Tabby McTat' by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed learning the buskers song!

We have been reading the story of the 'Scarecrows wedding' by Julia Donaldson. We have used the pictures as clues to tell the story, made lists for our own weddings and written invitations for people to attend! Have a look below to see some of our work!

We compared the two stories written by Julia Donaldson and thought about which was our favourite. We wrote about why we liked a particular one the best. Below are some of our reviews!

We have been looking at the properties of 2d shapes during our Maths sessions. We have used lolly sticks to make a variety of shapes; looking at the number of corners and sides a particular shape needs. We created patterns and pictures using sticky shapes or by using our interactive board.

Miss Hewitt, our student teacher, has brought in a variety of animals over the last few weeks for us to look at. We have learnt about what different animals eat, where they live and how long they live for. Lots of us were very brave and even held a tarantula!

Our literacy focus for the next few weeks is 'Castles and Dragons'. To start our topic off we read a story called 'Knight time'. We have looked at the various characters, acted out the story, made crowns for princesses and created our own maps.

Our Maths focus for the week beginning 2nd May was doubling. We looked at lots of problems that included halving and sharing too! We began to think of our own problems based in doubling!

As part of our topic on castles, we looked at various ones around the country. In groups we talked about the features of one and then compared this with what others groups had. We then watched Barnaby Bear visit Edinburgh castle! We learnt that it was built on a hill and has three levels. We then designed our own castles and labelled the features!

We had a visit from lots of interesting animals! We enjoyed finding out lots of information about them and getting very close for a look!
