Mental Health/SEMH

At Hill Top, we actively promote the development of positive mental health, through teaching and talking about it. We aim to provide the best possible support for children and families who are experiencing difficulties. If you have any concerns about your child's emotional well-being or mental health then please talk to us about it. There are things we can do in school, or it may be more appropriate for us to access support from another agency.

Mental Health First Aid Champion - MHFA England

Mental Health First Aider in Hill Top is Mrs Lancaster.

The Mental Health First Aider's role is to:
– Understand the important factors affecting mental ill health – Identify the signs and symptoms for a range of mental health conditions.
– Use ALGEE to provide Mental Health First Aid to someone experiencing a mental health issue or crisis – Listen non-judgementally and hold supportive conversations using the   Mental Health First Aid action plan.
– Signpost people to professional help, recognising that your role as a Mental Health First Aider does not replace the need for ongoing support.

Their role in school is to act as a point of contact and reassurance for a person who may be experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress.

School has mental health action plans in place for anxiety, depression, self-harm, eating disorders, psychosis and suicide. Guidelines from MHFA England informed the action plans which would be used for any children displaying signs of illness. If you would like a paper copy, please contact Mrs Lancaster at school.
